Martial Arts
A core pillar of our martial arts training is the application of our black belt principles as a guide to help in all areas of life. Here are just a few that you can expect to learn in our daily classes:
- Humility: We emphasize the importance of a beginner's mindset. In its most simple form this comes down to developing listening skills to follow directions well.
- Respect: Our students learn to treat others with kindness and consideration - both inside the academy and in everyday interactions.
- Bravery: We encourage our students to push themselves out of their comfort zone to build confidence. This involves active participation in class, volunteering to show examples, and regular demonstrations in front of large audiences.
- Perseverance: Through consistent training, we nurture a "keep going" mindset, showing that hard work and dedication lead to success. Board breaking, sparring, and fitness drills are all ways you can expect to be challenged in class.

Women Self Defense
Boost your confidence knowing that you have the knowledge and skill it takes to defend yourself and your loved ones in the event of an attack. Groups are often organized based on friends, families, and/or co-workers. Here are the key areas we cover in our course:
- Situational Awareness: Learn key awareness strategies and live safe habits to limit environments that create dangerous situations.
- Practical Defenses: Build muscle memory on practical defenses against common attack types.
- Striking: Realize the power capability you have, and discover what go-to motions you would feel comfortable using to defend yourself.
- Empowerment: Develop your inner warrior! Strength comes from knowing that you can stand up for yourself, and that you have a solid plan of action to follow if necessary. Should there be a need to defend yourself physically, your greatest attribute is your willingness to use everything within your resources to keep fighting.

Camps
Our camps give you the peace of mind that your child is safe, making friends, and having fun. We offer martial arts instruction along with themed activities that are relevant to the games, events, & movies that kids enjoy most. There are priorities we have with our camps:
Fun: The curriculum of the camps is balanced by spending half of the time on martial arts techniques, stations, and games. The other half is spent on creative activities related to the theme of the camp. This combines for a great mix of learning & fun!
Safety: All of our camp activities are carefully planned with a priority to guarantee safe training & activities. Our excellent certified instructors, who LOVE teaching kids, are trained give the safest & most fun experience for all campers.
Discipline: Rules are regularly discussed to help the campers understand expectations of respect to their fellow campers, instructors, and most importantly to themselves.

Birthday Parties
We provide a unique experience to make your child feel special on their birthday! Our themed birthday parties that are 2 hours long where the only thing we ask you to bring is the cake. Here what you can expect:
- Spotlight: We highlight your child by having them stand in front to show all of the examples in front of their friends & family. This is a great way for the them to show & tell, and feel awesome!
- Themed: You can choose any theme option so ask your kid for their favorite one. Usual choices are nerf, minecraft, sports, any superheros, etc... Our activities will reflect the theme choice along with martial arts training. Additionally, we will get themed plates, napkins, and tablecloths.
- Cake Sword Cutting: A fun tradition for the birthday celebration is your child getting to cut their cake or cupcakes with a sword! Our certified instructors assist them with the cutting, but its a great photo memory & keepsake when we finish singing happy birthday.
- Pizza & Drinks Included: We provide dominos pizza & Kool-Aid to all guests. You're welcome to bring any additional food & drinks for party guests should you wish.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Goshen Academy of Martial Arts business and programs.
How would you describe your academy's culture?
Our academy’s culture is centered on attitude & effort. You get to test each month for a tip to progress to your next belt. We ensure that students must earn each one by putting forth their best. The balance that we aim to strike with students is positively reinforcing specific areas that are performed well while holding students to the expectations of the appropriate class.
What makes your martial arts academy unique in the Edwardsville / Glen Carbon area?
The primary focus of our academy is to develop life skills and character development. You can expect a focus on improving confidence, focus, respect, self-discipline, and bullyproofing skills. You can refer to our benefits page to see more details on how we work on those skills!
What qualifications and experience do your instructors have?
Every instructor is a black belt, and has a minimum 6 years of training experience at our academy. Each certified instructor has trained in our leadership program for over 3 years. The leadership program is run by Master Nathan, who has over 20 years of martial arts experience. We only hire instructors from within to guarantee our team reflects our academy's culture, and can give the absolute best quality to your training.
How do you ensure a safe training environment and prevent injuries?
Your safety is a top priority at our academy. High intensity techniques are only practiced by hitting equipment. Anytime we conduct partner exercises using pads, we provide detailed instruction on how to hold the pads to prevent injuries. Sparring is another area in our curriculum that may result in contact. We introduce this training in stages of your martial arts journey to develop body control, which helps to minimize accidents.
What style do you teach?
Our style is based in Tang Soo Do. We have taken influence from multiple martial arts styles to create a unique self defense curriculum. You will learn self defense that helps protects you against bullies on the playground along with predators attacking on the streets. As you progress in your martial arts training, you'll develop reflexes in stand up sparring to handle attackers with more fighting experience than the average person.
Do you need any experience to get started in martial arts?
No experience is required! Everyone is encouraged to run their own race at our academy. This means our team of instructors will challenge you according to your physical conditioning level, and your overall confidence when you start.
What is the price of a student membership, and what benefits does it provide?
